I recently could only game on a lower end lap top while travelling so went back to playing CC5.

The one thing I noticed about CC5 was that when squads piled into buildings they all fired out of the building. Due to the scale of the game windows and walls were probably not a concern and the building more an abstraction in this regard.

This gave me an Idea and I used the editor for SA2w to change the building wall elements from wall to windows in many of the maps such as monteberg which is very urban. This enhanced things greatly, squads entered houses, line of site was not blocked now due to positioning and the game flowed in a CC fashion. And yet the buildings still afforded heavy cover and concealment.

My question: Is there a way I can substitute one element globally by changing a file name rather than physically redoing each map manually?

I guess the most efficient way would be to make a backup copy of the "elements3D.txt" (or similar) data file and then to change the properties of the wall elements to those of the window elements. This would of course affect all maps at once.

I agree that the LOS algorithm is *very* sensitive to the care of the map maker. Placing an individual tree tile into a line of hedge tiles, for example, can have very detrimental effects on path finding and LOS, especially for teams that are very close to it. A set of hard design rules should be developed.

In the "Assault on Horsa Bridge" scenario, for example, the "rail" of the bridge is extending distinctly beyond the 3D model in the terrain encoding, thus giving confusing LOS results.

A lot of responsibility is placed on the map maker due to this redundancies.

Best regards,
Thomm

I already changed the element data to do this for the patch,

So true Thomm, I updated my early map for that very reason. Learning curve. My later maps are much tighter  Smiley . You can't have good game engine performance on a badly tiled map.

@ Eric, this is good news. Will greatly enhance the game experience. Thanks.
